The Iowa Historic Preservation Alliance has two long-running programs that recognize preservation efforts and concerns across the state.
Since 1995, IHPA has recognized the special buildings and historic sites that are slowly and gradually slipping away through our list of Iowa's Most Endangered Properties. The call for nominations is posted late in the summer, the deadline is during the fall, and the new list is announced in our winter issue of the The Iowa Preservationist.
Since 1996, IHPA has recognized exceptional preservation efforts across the state through our Preservation at its Best Awards. Typically, the call for nominations is posted in January, the deadline is in March, and awards are given as part of Community History Day events at the State Historical Society in May. Award categories include the best in residential, commercial, public, and rural preservation and special projects.
